My friends take astro-photos too!

I have friends, from different parts of the U.S.A and the world.

Some of my friends (and lots of other people I’ve met) have a photography hobby or it is actually a source of income for them. Sometimes when they are not taking pictures of trees or some other random subject, they take pictures of the night sky. Many of them seem to have very expensive equipment and are very informed on how to use it.

I’m still learning.

In the meantime, I thought it would be fun to share a few photos that were shared with me from an old friend. He has been taking photos for a very, very long time. He has a DSLR camera and lives up north.

This pic was shot wide open at f2. I used a twenty sec exposure based on recommendations from research. I used something called the 500 rule. I take my focal length, 24mm and divide it into 500 and get 20.83 seconds. I used 20 seconds and got this. Then, I ran it through lightroom to sharpen and brighten to get more stars. I also tried 15 seconds. Not bright enough. I tried 25 seconds and star trails were starting to develop.
