January 2016 Night Sky Photos

In tonight’s post, I will be sharing a series of night sky photos that were taken in January 2016. The astrophotos were taken with my Canon EOS Rebel DSLR on a small inexpensive tripod.

The first photo was taken late one Friday night after getting home from my sister’s college graduation. The sky was really starry and clear. My camera was still ready to go, my little one was fast asleep. It was time to run outside and take some new photos.

The Pleiades, Orion’s belt and many other stars were clearly visible that night.

The pink/orange glow of light pollution was apparent.
But thankfully the sky was so clear that many stars could be seen. Even from the city.

This was the surprise of the night. A METEOR! My camera was on automatic mode and was taking multiple photos of the big dipper (seen behind the meteor streak). This was the luckiest of pictures I could ever probably take. It was not planned or expected. A real treat. I guess wishes do come true sometimes.
